Every site that recommends a nursing home to you is paid a commission by that home. This one isn't paid by anybody. Here is the government's own record for all 14,683 certified facilities — including the 1,435 carrying an active abuse flag and the 88 on the federal Special Focus list.

Why a commission-free version had to exist

The business model of senior-living referral is simple: the site collects your contact details, sells them to facilities that pay for placements, and those facilities call you. Families in the research described being "flooded with robocalls" after a single search. A home with an abuse citation pays the same commission as a home without one, so there is no reason for the listing to mention it.

CMS publishes all of it — star ratings, inspection deficiencies, abuse flags, the Special Focus list, staffing hours, nurse turnover — free, every month. It is just hard to search and harder to interpret. That is the entire gap this fills.

Nursing homes only

Assisted living is licensed state by state, with no federal inspection data, no ratings, and in many states no public record at all. If your parent needs assisted living rather than skilled nursing, this page cannot help you and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
